Error codes

Oven
error codes,
read properly.

A code narrows the search and is also the thing most often read wrong: the same characters mean different things on different brands, and a fair number of the codes people look up are not failures at all — they are modes the appliance was left in.

Three things before
you look it up.

A code is a lead, not a verdict. These decide whether the answer you find will be any use.

01

Every character on the display

Each letter and digit in order, and whether it flashes or comes with a beep. Take a photo first, because canceling the cooking mode or cutting the power can clear it.

02

The model number, in full

It is usually on a plate on the oven frame when the door is open, or along the edge of the trim. The same code can point to a sensor on one make and a door lock on another.

03

Is there a gas or burning smell?

That answer decides whether you kill the power and step outside now, or simply take the next open slot.

What each kind
of code means.

Codes fall into a handful of families. The family says more about the likely repair than the characters do — and one of them is not a repair at all.

How to read a code

Mode, not a failure

21 codes

A setting someone switched on, or a state the oven entered on purpose — a control lock, a Sabbath setting, a showroom mode that lights the display without heating. No part has broken and nothing has to be replaced.

Temperature sensor

30 codes

The reading from the temperature probe fell outside what the control will trust, or climbed far higher than the setting. A loose connector or a probe that has drifted is ruled out before the control itself, and a reading that runs away means the breaker goes off first.

Door and lock

26 codes

The motorized lock did not reach the position the control asked for, or its switch reported the wrong one. Most often this shows during or after self-clean; the latch, its switches and the door's alignment are checked before the lock motor is replaced.

Steam and water

20 codes

The steam oven found its water tank empty, its supply short, or its steam generator slowed by scale. Refilling and seating the tank and running the descaling program come first; a pump, a level sensor or the generator is looked at only after that.

Communication

23 codes

The display and the main control board stopped hearing each other, or the board failed its own check. A power dip, a loose ribbon cable or moisture behind the panel is ruled out before either board is replaced, and an oven that stays on through this code is switched off at the breaker.

Questions about
the codes.

My oven's code has no page here. What now?
It just means there is no documented page for it yet; a code is added once the maker's own material explains it. Write down the characters, note whether they flash, and put them in the booking form so the technician can check them against your model.
Does an oven code mean the same thing across brands?
No. A code that points to a temperature sensor on one make can mean a door lock or a board on another, and some makers changed their meanings between generations. Read any code against the make and, where it matters, the exact model.
Is it safe to clear an oven code myself?
Switching the oven off at its breaker for a few minutes sometimes clears a code, and one that never returns was often a passing glitch, such as a brief power dip. A code that comes back is reporting something real. If the oven keeps heating while a code shows, leave the breaker off and book rather than resetting it.
A code is on the display but the oven still bakes. Is something broken?
Not necessarily. Several codes that owners look up are modes or locks — a control lock, a Sabbath setting, a showroom mode, a reminder to refill or descale a steam tank — that change how the oven behaves without any part failing. Each code page marks the ones that are only a mode and explains how to switch them off.
