Viking ovens,
specifically.

Viking's current built-in ovens are 3, 5 and 7 Series electric wall ovens, including French-door models, plus RVL wall ovens and an RVL convection steam oven. Their manuals print no numbered code list: the 5 and 7 Series guide troubleshoots by symptom, and the RVL guides ask you to write down or photograph any alert before service.

The Viking lineup

What is particular
to Viking.

Viking's wall ovens span the 3, 5 and 7 Series, French-door models and the newer RVL line with its convection steam oven. The two generations use different controls, knob and button on one side and a touch screen with event logs on the other, which changes how a visit starts.

Self-clean takes about four hours

On 5 and 7 Series ovens the automatic door latch engages within 30 seconds of starting self-clean, the cycle runs about 3 1/2 hours, and the oven needs about 30 more minutes to cool before the latch lets go. A door that stays shut during that time is normal.

Settings hide behind a long press

Holding the first button for three seconds on 5 and 7 Series ovens opens settings such as SAb for Sabbath mode and SHO for showroom mode. Both default to off, which the display shows as NO.

RVL ovens have a hard reset

If the display and indicator lights of an RVL wall oven stop working, Viking suggests holding the power button to the right of the screen for 10 seconds, then cycling the breaker.

The RVL steam oven needs no descaler

Viking describes its RVL convection steam oven as not needing descalers to keep the steam system running. When that oven shows an F code, Viking asks you to cut power for 10 seconds and note the code if it stays.

Parts

Viking parts are ordered by model and serial number from the plate on the top left of the oven door opening. Parts for retired models, such as the older combi steam oven, may need a longer search.

Repair or replace

Element, latch, sensor and control repairs are usually worth doing on a Viking wall oven in sound condition. Replacement is worth comparing on a retired model when a control or a steam part is no longer available.

Questions about
Viking ovens.

My Viking door will not open after self-clean. Is it stuck?
Probably not yet. The latch stays engaged until the oven has cooled to a safe temperature, which takes about 30 minutes after the 3 1/2 hour cycle ends.
Why won't the broiler on my Viking 5 Series work?
Viking's troubleshooting chart points to the temperature knob turned too far past the broil position. Set it back to broil and try again before booking a visit.
Can I touch the halogen oven light bulb when replacing it on my Viking?
No. Viking asks you not to touch the bulb with bare hands and to wipe off any oil with a soft cloth. Switch off power at the breaker before changing it.
