BlueStar ovens,
specifically.

BlueStar, the Pennsylvania range maker, sells wall ovens in both gas and electric, with drop-down or French doors in single and double setups. Neither wall oven manual publishes a code list, so service works from the indicator light, the troubleshooting table and what the oven actually does.

The BlueStar lineup

What is particular
to BlueStar.

BlueStar lists 30-inch electric wall ovens with a drop-down door or French doors, single or double, and 30- and 36-inch gas wall ovens sold as single ovens or two stacked. The electric and gas ovens have separate manuals, so gas or electric is the first question.

Gas oven with an infrared broiler

The gas wall oven pairs a 25,000 BTU burner with an 1850° infrared broiler, and BlueStar warns that the broiler surface must not be cleaned. A broiler that heats unevenly is inspected on a visit, never scrubbed.

A blue light that blinks on purpose

On the gas wall oven a blue LED lights while the oven preheats, goes out when the sensor reaches the set point, and blinks as the burner cycles. The burner can also take up to three minutes to light, which is normal.

A bake stone inside the electric oven

The electric wall oven has a built-in, temperature-controlled baking stone with its own pre-dry step before first use. The stone is part of the heating plan, so it is checked along with the elements when Stone mode underperforms.

An over-temperature switch

The electric wall oven has an over-temperature safety switch that can stop the heat while the oven stays on. An oven that is on but cold is checked for that switch before any element is ordered.

Parts

BlueStar ovens are built to order in custom colors and trims; parts are matched by model and serial number, and trim or door parts may need the original color code.

Repair or replace

A made-to-order, custom-colored oven is usually worth repairing: igniters, elements, switches and fans are the repairs to try before anyone talks about replacement.

Questions about
BlueStar ovens.

The blue light on my BlueStar gas wall oven keeps blinking. Is that a problem?
No. BlueStar says the blue LED blinks as the oven cycles to hold its temperature after preheat. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.
My BlueStar electric wall oven is on but not heating. What can I check?
Check the breaker first. BlueStar notes the over-temperature safety switch may have tripped; if it keeps happening, switch the oven off at the breaker and book a visit.
Why does the fan behind my BlueStar control panel run after the oven is off?
It keeps cooling the controls until the oven drops to about 200°F. If it still runs once the oven is cool, BlueStar points to a fan relay stuck on, which is a repair.
Why does my BlueStar oven show an error when I start Broil?
The temperature probe must come out before Broil; BlueStar says an error occurs if it stays in. Remove the probe and restart the mode.
