Gaggenau ovens,
specifically.

Gaggenau's built-in cooking line includes combi-steam ovens that are plumbed into the house water supply and a drain, and combi-microwave ovens. The combi-steam manual names a few conditions on the display, such as E182 when no water arrives or a lock on steam modes when descaling is overdue, and asks you to report any other E code to service.

The Gaggenau lineup

What is particular
to Gaggenau.

The combi-steam ovens covered here are the BS 470/471, 474/475 and 484/485 612 models; the BM 450/451 and 484/485 710 combi-microwave ovens have their own manual. Both need a planned visit because they sit in a fixed cabinet opening, and the combi-steam models are also tied to water and drain lines.

Plumbed in, with its own drain

The BS combi-steam ovens connect to a cold water line with the connection set supplied and drain through their own hose. That makes the house water line part of any water-related check.

Overdue descaling locks the steam modes

When the descale reminder has been repeated, the oven locks every mode that uses steam until the descaling program runs. Dry heat modes stay available in the meantime.

Only Gaggenau's descaling tablets

The manual asks for the specified descaling tablets, placed in the water tank and never in the oven cavity. The program takes about 1 hour 45 minutes and cannot be canceled once it starts.

A 12-hour safety switch-off

If nobody operates the oven for more than 12 hours, it switches itself off as a safety measure. After confirming the message, you switch it off and set it again.

Parts

Gaggenau parts are ordered by the full model number. Steam generator and water-path parts are specific to each model family and are often ordered after the first visit.

Repair or replace

Water-path and control repairs are usually worth doing on a Gaggenau combi-steam oven that is otherwise sound. A replacement comparison makes sense only when a major assembly fails on an older unit.

Questions about
Gaggenau ovens.

My Gaggenau combi-steam oven shows 210 °F with the core probe in. Is the probe broken?
Not necessarily. Gaggenau links that reading to moisture on the probe plug or its socket; insert and remove the plug several times to clear it.
Why won't Steam removal work on my Gaggenau?
It only works when the cavity is below about 265 °F. Let the oven cool a little and try again.
My Gaggenau does not heat and shows a demo symbol. What happened?
The oven is in demo mode, which stops it heating. Switch it off at the breaker briefly, then turn demo mode off in the basic settings within 3 minutes.
