Miele ovens,
specifically.
Miele sells built-in ovens with a Self Clean program, steam ovens and combi-steam ovens, and its US help pages explain individual F codes for each type. Many of those pages begin with something an owner can check, such as the water container, the floor filter or a blocked air duct, before pointing to service.

to Miele.
Miele's help pages separate ovens, which use F codes such as F23, F32 and F33 around Self Clean, from steam and combi-steam ovens, whose F codes focus on water, heating and draining. Some codes apply only to certain series, such as F196 on DGC 6xx0 combi-steam ovens, so the model plate matters.
Water can be too pure
Miele's steam generator uses an electrode that needs some minerals to detect water, and it gives a minimum hardness of 1 gpg. A reverse-osmosis system can drop below that and trigger F10; Miele even suggests a pinch of salt in the container.
The water container seal needs Miele's grease
On steam ovens with an integrated steam generator, the coupling seal on the water container is lubricated with the silicone grease supplied. Household grease, oil or margarine can make it swell.
Long cooks trigger a safety shut-off
A Miele oven that runs unusually long in one mode switches itself off and shows F55. It is ready again right after it is turned off and on.
The oven needs free air around it
F60 means the oven is not ventilated well enough, and Miele's first check is an air duct that has been covered or blocked. Trim or panels added near the oven are worth a look.
Parts
Miele parts are ordered by model and serial number. Steam generator, pump and water-path parts for steam and combi-steam ovens are specific to each series.
Repair or replace
Most Miele oven codes point to a water-path, lock or sensor repair that is worth doing on a sound appliance. Replacement is worth comparing when an older steam oven needs its steam generator and control at the same time.
