Oven
guides,
read first.

An oven repair guide is only useful if it answers the question you actually have, so these are split by what you are trying to find out — is this worth paying for, what is that noise, what can I check myself — rather than by which part of the appliance it concerns.

The work itself

Every guide here ends in the same place: what a technician actually does about it, in the order it gets done.

Curious what a repair runs? That question gets a page of its own rather than a paragraph here, because nobody can put a fair number on it before a technician has opened the oven — oven repair cost.

When reading
is not enough.

If the checks in a guide did not settle it, a technician picks up from there. The visit, stop by stop.

Questions about
the guides.

Can a guide replace having the oven checked?
No. The guides explain how an oven behaves and which checks are safe for an owner, so the easy causes are ruled out and the rest can be described well. Where a guide gets near a gas connection, live wiring or the back of the cabinet, it tells you to stop.
Are the guides written for my brand of oven?
Most are written for a type of oven rather than a single maker, because wall ovens heat and lock in much the same way whoever builds them. Where a make does something differently the guide points it out, and your owner's manual always takes priority.
Which oven guide should I open first?
If something is wrong now, go to the problem pages, which are ordered by what you notice. The guides are longer and suit a question you have time for: how an oven holds its temperature, what to check before a visit, or whether an older oven is worth keeping.
What are the oven guides based on, and how can I tell?
Every guide lists the sources behind its specific claims, such as manufacturer manuals and published gas and fire safety guidance. Anything without a source is presented as general repair experience rather than a rule.
