Kenmore wall oven
showing F4/E1

On a Kenmore 665 wall oven, F4/E1 points at the meat probe: the control reads a short in the probe, its jack or the harness behind the jack.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Kenmore's own guidance for F4/E1 on its ovens. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Unplug the probe and look for a bent tip, crushed cable or damaged plug.

02

Reset power at the breaker and cook without the probe.

03

If the code returns without the probe, book a visit to check the jack and wiring.

Still there?

It usually turns into temperature sensor and calibration. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

It is not the oven's own temperature sensor; ordinary baking does not use the probe.

What you may
notice with it.

The oven problems F4/E1 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the oven before anyone is booked.

Questions
about F4/E1.

Can I clear F4/E1 myself?
Unplug the probe and look for a bent tip, crushed cable or damaged plug. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I keep baking without the probe if my Kenmore shows F4/E1?
Often yes, because the probe is only needed for probe cooking. If the code shows even with the probe unplugged, the jack or harness needs a look.
Is a new probe enough to fix Kenmore F4/E1?
Only if the old probe is the shorted part. The jack in the oven wall and its wiring can produce the same code.

Still showing F4/E1?

Book with the code exactly as shown, the full model number, and whether you can smell gas or burning — with a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
