An oven code is the control reporting a check it could not pass: the temperature sensor gave an impossible reading, the oven got hotter than it should, the door lock did not move, a fan did not answer, the gas burner did not light, a steam oven ran short of water, or two boards lost touch with each other. A few codes are not failures at all but modes, such as a Sabbath setting or a demo mode left on from the showroom. The same letters mean different things across brands and even between models of one brand, so a code is only useful together with the model number. The 6 causes, cheapest first Answer these first 01 What exactly does the display show, including letters that could be numbers? 02 Does the code come back after the breaker is off for several minutes? 03 When does it appear: at start, during preheat, during self-clean or at the end? 04 Is the oven gas, electric, steam or a speed oven? 05 Where is the model label? It is usually on the frame when the door is open. ## Check these before you book. Oven error code: 5 checks, and none of them costs anything. 01 Copy the code exactly, and take a photo of the display if you can. 02 Find the model and serial label on the oven frame with the door open. 03 Switch the oven's breaker off for several minutes, then back on, and see if the code returns. ### Also worth checking - Look up the code in the owner's manual; some are modes, not failures. - If the code mentions heat or gas, or you smell gas, stop using the oven before anything else. ### How soon does it need a visit? Plenty of oven codes can wait for the visit. Is the oven fixed? Sometimes a reset clears a glitch from a surge or outage. If the code returns at the same point in a cycle, the part it points to is still failing. ### Why does my code mean something different online? Many pages list codes for other appliances or older models of the same brand. Oven codes change between brands and model families, so match yours to the manual for your model number. ### My oven shows a code and will not bake at all. Why?
