# Oven repair cost, band by band.

Bands rather than prices, because the same repair costs differently on a freestanding unit and on a built-in. What does not change is the order — the cheap causes are also the common ones — or the rule that decides repair against replace.

## An oven is priced after it has been seen heating.

The scale on this page shows where oven jobs tend to fall, never what yours will cost. An oven that will not heat may have a burned-out element, a weak gas igniter, a failed sensor or a relay that never closes, and nobody can tell which from a description alone. A price named before the oven has been tested is either a guess or padded for the worst case. Here, the price comes once the cause is found and before any part is changed, and you decide whether to go ahead.

The bands, job by job

### Ask what the diagnostic visit costs when you book, and whether it is deducted if you go ahead with the repair.

### Expect the repair to be priced at the oven once the failed part is found, with no work started before you agree.

### If the oven is not worth fixing, you are told plainly, and that advice is part of what the visit is for.

## What a repair usually costs.

A useful test: compare the repair with the cost of a new oven that fits the same cabinet cutout, not just any oven. Wall oven openings differ between makes and generations, and a new unit that does not match can bring carpentry and trim work with it. That hidden cost is why most repairs on a built-in oven are worth doing, and why replacement usually makes sense only when a board is no longer made or the cavity has rusted.

| Repair | Relative cost | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Door hinges, gasket or door glass](https://ovenrepair.center/services/door-hinge-and-gasket-repair/) | lowest | A pair of hinges or a new gasket is a short job at the bottom of the scale. A replacement glass pane sits a little higher, since the door is taken apart and rebuilt around it. |
| [Bake or broil element](https://ovenrepair.center/services/bake-and-broil-element-repair/) | low | The single most common oven part. A hidden bake element under the floor panel takes longer to reach, and any scorched terminal behind it is replaced at the same time. |
| [Gas igniter, safety valve or burner](https://ovenrepair.center/services/gas-igniter-and-burner-repair/) | low | A weak igniter is a small part and ends most gas ovens that will not light. The safety valve costs more, and every fitting opened is leak-tested before the visit ends. |
| [Temperature sensor or calibration](https://ovenrepair.center/services/temperature-sensor-and-calibration/) | low | Calibration alone needs no part at all. A new sensor is inexpensive and quick to fit from inside the cavity on most wall ovens. |
| [Cooling fan or thermal fuse](https://ovenrepair.center/services/cooling-fan-and-thermal-fuse-repair/) | low | The fuse itself is small; the time goes into finding why the oven overheated, which often means sliding it out of the cabinet to reach the fan on top. |
| [Convection fan motor, blade or ring element](https://ovenrepair.center/services/convection-fan-and-motor-repair/) | low to moderate | A blade or a ring element stays near the low end. A motor for a premium convection oven, reached through the rear wall or the back of the unit, moves the job toward the middle. |
| [Door lock motor and switches](https://ovenrepair.center/services/door-lock-and-self-clean-repair/) | low to moderate | The latch assembly is a mid-priced part. Where the self-clean heat also damaged the sensor, the wiring or the fan, those are priced as separate items before any work begins. |
| [Steam generator, pump or tank sensor](https://ovenrepair.center/services/steam-system-repair/) | moderate | Descaling is the cheapest outcome. A pump or a sensor is modest, while a new steam generator from a premium maker lifts the job into the middle of the scale. |
| [Control board or touch panel](https://ovenrepair.center/services/controls-and-sensors/) | moderate to highest | A keypad or ribbon cable sits in the middle. A full control board, especially on a double or premium built-in oven, is among the costliest parts an oven takes. |

## What the diagnostic visit covers.

The first visit decides what the repair actually is. The fee, and whether it is credited against the repair, is said when you book, before anyone comes out.

[The diagnostic visit](https://ovenrepair.center/services/diagnostic-visit/)

01

### Setting a temperature and watching the preheat, so the technician sees which elements, burners and fans actually come on.

02

### Checking the simple causes before opening anything: the breaker and supply voltage, the gas shutoff, the door, the settings and any control lock.

03

### Measuring the likely parts, including the elements, the igniter, the temperature sensor, the door lock, the fans and the board's relays, instead of guessing.

04

### A clear account of the failed part, the work it needs and the price, or honest advice that a new oven is the better use of the money.

## What moves the price.

Five things decide where in its band a repair lands. None of them is known for certain until a technician has seen the oven.

[The types](https://ovenrepair.center/types/)

### The kind of oven and how it is installed

A single wall oven whose element changes from inside the cavity is the simplest case. A double wall oven that has to come out onto a platform, a speed oven stacked above another unit or a plumbed steam oven all take more time before the repair can start.

### Gas or electric

Electric ovens mostly need elements, sensors and relays. Gas ovens add the igniter, the safety valve and the burner, and any work on the gas side ends with a leak test at every fitting.

### Which part failed

A hinge, gasket, sensor or element sits at the low end of the scale. A control board, a steam generator or the high-voltage parts of a speed oven sit higher, and a single job may involve more than one part if heat damaged the wiring around it.

### The brand, and the wait for its parts

Parts for the everyday makes are stocked by most suppliers and often ride on the van. Imported and premium ovens can use costlier parts with longer lead times, and a board that is no longer made may decide the repair-or-replace question by itself.

### One trip or two

Returning with an ordered part adds a second visit. The model and serial label is usually on the oven frame behind the door or on the edge of the control panel, and giving it at booking helps the right part arrive the first time.

## Not every oven breaks the same way.

A single wall oven sits alone in its cabinet, a double stacks two cavities with separate controls, a steam oven carries a water tank or a plumbed line, and a speed oven adds microwave power to convection heat. Find the one fitted in your kitchen.

[All oven types](https://ovenrepair.center/types/)

### Single wall oven

One oven cavity set into a cabinet at chest height, with its own controls above the door and nothing to cook on above it.

### Double wall oven

Two full oven cavities stacked in one tall cabinet, sharing one control panel and one power supply but heating on their own.

### Steam oven

A built-in oven that adds water vapor to the cavity, alone or with convection heat, fed from a tank or a water line.

### Speed oven

A compact built-in oven that combines convection heat with microwave energy in one cavity to cook in a fraction of the usual time.

## Questions about the price.

### What does the oven diagnostic visit cost?

You hear it when you book, so the figure is clear before anyone arrives. You also learn then whether it counts toward the repair, instead of finding out from the invoice.

### Why are costs given as bands instead of exact figures?

A band is the most anyone can honestly offer without seeing the oven. An oven that will not heat may need a new bake element or a new control board, and a double oven that has to come out of a tall cabinet adds time to either. The bands show where each job sits relative to the others.

### Once the oven is diagnosed, must I have it repaired?

No. The repair is priced first and the choice is yours. If you decline, the visit is the only charge.

### Could the price rise during the repair?

The price agreed after the diagnosis stands. If the technician finds a second problem once the oven is out of the wall, such as a scorched wire next to a failed element, you are told and asked before anything is added.
